Smart Grid Training for Beginners
Basic knowledge of IEC 61850 for engineers and technicians
The growing share of energy from renewable sources, including solar, wind and hydropower, requires restructuring of energy distribution. Centralised energy supply from large power stations to electricity consumers, which has been the norm so far, is increasingly being replaced by electricity fed into the grid from decentralised renewable sources. Since solar, wind and hydropower do not produce a steady supply of energy, grid owners are establishing a data communication network integrated into the power grid and plan to use this Smart Grid for ensuring the steady supply and distribution of energy. Published in 2004, the IEC 61850 standard provides a fundamental communication standard for Smart Grid solutions. All devices in the Smart Grid will have to conform to this standard.
Statutory and regulatory requirements call for rapid introduction of Smart Grid systems. Given this, the workforces of device manufacturers, energy producers and distributors must be familiarised with the IEC 61850 standard without delay.
- Technical staff of energy companies
- Test engineers and electrical engineers
- Component manufacturers
- Operators of energy production plants
- Operators of local and regional power grids and industrial facilities
The 2-day training covers:
- Management of energy systems
- Introduction to IEC 61850 and IEC 61400-25 (international standard for wind power plants)
- Substation automation and protection
- Communication and SCADA protocols
- Products and projects
- Migration solutions
- Real time & GOOSE
